SUPPORT

It’s scary to ride a roller coaster by ourselves, we often want to have a friend or a group of friends to experience the ride with us. Experiencing Alopecia can also be quite a roller coaster and many of us go through the emotional ride all by ourselves with no support. When I started slowly but surely loosing my hair 12 years ago, it became chaos in both my physical world but also in my mental world and I had no one to turn to – I was riding the roller coaster all by myself. I didn’t know at the time that there are support groups out there, not even the dermatologist was interested in informing me about it. I thought I was all alone. It felt like I was riding the most frightful and highest roller coaster in the world, ALL BY MYSELF!

I am grateful today for my husband because he has been the one person that has never left my side. He inspired me to accept and love myself again. When all is said and done, it was a choice only I could do. He has been my support from the second episode of Alopecia and to this day supports me like no other! We can find support from our loved ones, like I did. Or from people we don’t really know but are going through the same emotional roller coaster.

We are all unique in our own way. I believe that we are here for the experience, the good and the sadness and the joy. I know how hard this must be for most of you and the difficulties we face every day, especially in the beginning. But with all the support that is out there today like social media, local group gatherings, bigger events.

Its always more fun to ride the roller coaster with people who support you, which is why Alopecia Hearts of Fresno was created. To provide individuals with Alopecia, their families and their friends, a safe, comfortable, and trusting environment in which to share their personal experiences with this challenging condition. The group strives to enhance self-esteem, self-confidence, and sense of community, while increasing their capacity to effectively manage the various aspects of living with Alopecia.

The Support Group is an ideal place to come and talk with others about living with Alopecia. It is the place to gain knowledge from those who have had years of experience. With time comes the ability to deal and cope with your own hair loss or that of a loved one. We are truly fortunate that so many are willing to bring to the blog and meetings their wisdom and advice to share in a direct but compassionate manner that reflects the understanding and concern.

Alopecia Hearts of Fresno provides an online blog along with in person meetings and events (in the Fresno area) in which people can share their experiences with Alopecia. To access our blog please sign up as a member. As a member you can create a profile with your personal photo, create blogs and read about others who also have Alopecia.
